Getting the gist

For the last six years and still running, Kaldor has had the pleasure of working with Coast Capital Savings in creating and developing their employee newsletter gist. And what a ride it’s been.

With each issue, our Coast Capital friends give us a content sketch outlining the stories and corporate initiatives they need to feature, and then…they cut us loose to develop the design and layout. It’s kind of a dream come true, actually. Over 16 pages, we have virtually free reign as to how we’re going to keep their staff of 2,000 engaged with their culture and inspired by their maverick thinking and leading-edge programs.

And because this client is such an inherently fun bunch, they consistently allow us to dream up the best ways to keep people turning pages: issue to issue, gist is the place where Mr. Potato Head meets corporate social responsibility, the kids’ game Operation meets a new employee benefit program, and psychedelic 1960s-style illustrations meet a revolution in customer service.

It’s exactly this kind of bold thinking that makes Coast Capital such a successful company. They’re not afraid to take a few risks from time to time, and they’re not afraid to loosen their collars a bit. So it’s hardly a surprise they’re consistently recognized as one of Canada’s most well-managed and best employers.
